Spelling Test Buddy is used by thousands of grade 3-12 classroom, intervention, and ESL teachers across the world. Teachers can create custom, differentiated lists, assign practice and tests (and soon, games), get instant results on students' spelling, and can track their progress over time.
The School Plan of Spelling Test Buddy includes:
- Allow up to 100 teachers within a school to use the platform
- Create custom, differentiated word lists that can span across groups, classrooms, grade levels, and years
- Rapidly import lists from images, PDFs, Word documents, and more. Or, use one of our pre-made word lists
- Create students and organize them into groups
- Assign practice and tests to students. This can be done on a per-student, per-group, or per-class basis
- Create scheduled assignments
- Get instant results on students' spelling practice and tests
- Track students' progress over time
- Print PDFs of student results to distribute home with them
- Make use of our Digital Sorts tool
Pricing and Purchasing
The School Plan costs $299/year.
Schools can purchase the School Plan through their usual purchasing process. We support Purchase Orders and payment via credit card. Once paid, we will work with you to onboard your teachers and their students with our White Glove service.

Onboarding
Once purchased, we will work with you to onboard your teachers. This includes:
- Give us the list of teachers and their students. This can be in Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, or even just a series of emails with this information. If you'd like a template, please use this one.
- We will create accounts for the teachers in the list that don't already have one, and create students for each of the teachers in the list that haven't customized their account yet
- We will send a New User email to each teacher, that allows them to log in to Spelling Test Buddy

We offer support via email at support@spellingtestbuddy.com. We aim to respond to all support requests within 8 business hours.
Privacy First
We are committed to protecting your, and especially your students', privacy. We do not require you to enter an email address or even a full first or last name for your students. So, you can stay compliant with country, state, local, and district privacy laws and rules. We are fully compliant with FERPA, COPPA, PPRA, ISSRA, SOPPA, IPA, and PIPA. What is the School Plan?
The School Plan is a license for unlimited use of Spelling Test Buddy by teachers and students in a school or district. It includes all features of the individual license, plus additional features for managing multiple teachers and students.
How do schools purchase a license for Spelling Test Buddy?
Schools can purchase the School Plan through their usual purchasing process. We support Purchase Orders and payment via credit card. Once paid, we will work with you to onboard your teachers and their students with our White Glove service as described above.
How do we set up an entire school with dozens of teachers and hundreds of students? Can we bulk-import teachers and students?
We can handle this for you. Simply send us a list of teachers and their students, and we'll create accounts and handle the rest. The list can be in Excel, CSV, Google Sheest, or even just a series of emails with this information. If you prefer, you can use this template as a starting point.
Can teachers start setting up their accounts before the payment is finalized?
Yes. Teachers can create word lists, groups, students, and assignments, while awaiting final payment confirmation. Everything stays intact once the license is active.
If we discover that a teacher has already started to create any of the above, we will not overwrite their existing data.
Do you support Google Classroom?
Not yet. However, we do support Google Sign-In, so teachers can use their Google account to sign in to Spelling Test Buddy with a single click.
Frequently Asked Questions for Teachers
What format should word lists be in for upload?
You can upload Word documents directly—even with bullet points. If you’re unsure, you can send us a sample and we’ll test it for you.
Can we upload multiple word lists at once?
Yes. You can upload multiple documents into one word list, or upload each document into its own list. It’s flexible to suit your workflow.
Can word lists be shared across teachers?
Not yet directly via the interface, but we're planning to add that. For now, we can manually copy word lists from one teacher to another. Simply send us:
- The name or URL of the list to be used as the source
- Which teacher(s) (email addresses) should receive it
Can students retake the same test multiple times?
Yes. Just enable "Practice Mode" when creating or editing the assignment. Students can then repeat the test as many times as they need.
Can tests stay active year-round for revision?
Yes. You control the "Test End Time" on each assignment. Extend it to any future date and the link will remain live for students to revise.
Does Spelling Test Buddy support other languages?
Not yet - but this is a frequently requested feature and on our development roadmap.
