🎉 Introducing Sharing and Collaboration for Teachers in Spelling Test Buddy

Edited on 12 June 2025

🔗 Introducing the New Sharing Feature in Spelling Test Buddy

Teachers, Spelling Test Buddy just got a powerful upgrade for educators: the Sharing feature. With this new functionality, teachers can now seamlessly collaborate with colleagues by sharing Word Lists and Folders, making teamwork in classrooms more efficient than ever.

Whether you’re co-teaching, managing multiple classrooms, or just want to align your spelling curriculum across grade levels, Sharing helps you do it all with minimal friction.

Why Sharing Matters for Teachers

Modern classrooms thrive on collaboration. Many teachers work in teams, co-create learning materials, or want to standardize spelling lists across sections and grades. Until now, sharing Word Lists or folders involved workarounds, screenshots, or manual duplication. The new Sharing feature changes that by allowing:

  • Effortless collaboration with other teachers
  • Shared access to editable Word Lists, either directly or organized into Folders
  • Time-saving coordination with co-teachers or instructional coaches

With Sharing, you can now keep everyone on the same page - literally!

Sharing a Word List or Folder

As a teacher, you can share both individual Word Lists and entire Folders with your colleagues. You simply:

  1. Open the Word List or Folder you want to share.
  2. Click the Share button.
  3. Enter the email of the recipient (they’ll need a Spelling Test Buddy teacher account).
  4. Optionally include a message or context.
  5. Send the invitation.

Once the recipient accepts the invitation, they’ll gain access to the shared item, visible in their own dashboard.

You can share multiple Word Lists or Folders, and manage recipients at any time.

What Recipients See and Can Do

When a colleague shares something with you, you will get an email invitation.

To accept the invitation:

  1. Open the link from their email to see the Share invitation.
  2. Click Accept Invitation button.
  3. If they haven’t done so yet, register/log in.
  4. The Word List or Folder will now be visible and usable within your own workspace.

Once accepted, you can interact with the shared material just like your own—organize it, assign it to students, or duplicate it for further customization.

Managing and Revoking Access

As the original sharer, you remain in control. At any time, you can:

  • See who has access to a shared item
  • Revoke access from any recipient
  • View when the invitation was accepted

Removing access immediately hides the item from the recipient’s dashboard. The original content remains unaffected in your own account.

Remove someone's access by tapping on Remove from the sharing table

Leaving a Shared List or Folder

Recipients can also remove themselves from shared content if it’s no longer relevant. In the shared item view, just select Remove from my view to declutter your dashboard without affecting the original sharer.

Permissions and Limitations

Teachers receiving a share can:

  • Use the shared Word List or Folder in assignments, even if on the Basic (free) plan
  • Edit the contents of a Word List (words, definitions, order)
  • Remove the resource from their list

They cannot:

  • Rename the shared Word List or Folder
  • Delete or move it to another Folder
  • Share it with anyone else
  • Create new Word Lists inside shared Folders
  • Reorder Word Lists inside a shared Folder

If you need a new Word List inside a shared Folder, ask the owner to add it. It will appear automatically for you once created.
